Absolutely feel this. My grandfather used to test the AC by putting on a cardigan and muttering about 'arctic conditions'. It became a whole family joke after a while.

Did he ever upgrade to a full parka, or was the cardigan his limit?

Yeah I was totally in the cardigan-only camp for years, thought it was just stubbornness lol. But then I visited my cousin in Winnipeg last winter and that wind hits different, like it physically hurts your face. Had to borrow one of his proper parkas just to take the trash out and it was a full revelation. There's layers to this cold resistance thing, and sometimes the cardigan is just the opening act.
