The Great Dumpling Debacle of my last food crawl
I somehow managed to order fifty instead of five steamed buns and had to share them with the entire tour group. What's the most absurd quantity mistake you've made while ordering street food?

That "vendor just shrugged" moment from @paigewright is classic. In my experience, those massive order mix-ups practically force you into becoming a temporary community leader, distributing food like some kind of accidental street food saint. Your mileage may vary, but I've found that these blunders often lead to better stories than a perfectly planned meal ever could. It's a humble reminder that sometimes the best travel memories come from genuine mistakes, not guidebook itineraries. Take that skewer saga, for instance, turning a simple error into a hostel-wide feast is a solid example of making lemonade from lemons. Just goes to show, a little chaos with your cuisine can be the ultimate social lubricant.

Once confused "one" skewer with "one hundred" in a loud night market. My vendor just shrugged and started grilling. Took the entire platter back to my hostel's common room. Free food made instant friends with every backpacker there. Total accident but a great icebreaker.
