A recent storm showed me the true value of my tiny house's energy independence

Last Tuesday, a major thunderstorm knocked out power for my entire neighborhood. While cooking dinner on my induction stove, I worried my solar batteries might be depleted from the cloudy weather. However, checking the monitor revealed they had stored sufficient energy to maintain all systems. I completed my meal, kept the lights on, and even charged my phone. When a neighbor noticed my lights, I invited him in to charge his devices, fostering a sense of community. This experience highlighted how tiny house living promotes resilience and interpersonal connections. Has anyone else had a similar moment where their compact home turned a potential crisis into a community-building opportunity?

Man, my tiny house setup is the opposite of a hero story. My inverter chose the middle of that storm to throw a silent tantrum. So my lights were on, but my fridge quit. Had to give my neighbor's frozen pizza a sad funeral in a cooler. Still, the solar kept our phones charged, so we played cards by lantern light. Felt less like a power guru and more like a guy who accidentally built a community phone booth.

Disagree, @the_nancy. My panels failed in that storm last week.

Actually, a study last month said small solar setups weather storms best.
