I used to hate asking for help at the hardware store, but a 2 minute conversation saved my bathroom remodel
I was dead set on figuring out how to fix my shower valve myself, (I even watched 3 YouTube videos). Then this old timer at Ace Hardware in Portland just asked one question about my pipe diameter and I realized I was about to buy the wrong part completely. He showed me the right adapter and a $12 tool I'd never even heard of. Has anyone else had a random employee save them from a huge mistake like that?

The one time I decided to skip asking for help at Home Depot I ended up buying three different sizes of PVC pipe and still had to go back. That old timer probably saved you like four trips and a flooded bathroom.

Oh for sure, @hugo_bennett, you hit the nail on the head. I swear those old timers have a sixth sense for plumbing. I tried to be stubborn once and ended up with a pile of mismatched fittings and a leak that looked like a small fountain in my basement. It's like they know exactly which PVC size will make your joints line up perfectly and which one will make you cry. Now I just follow them around like a lost puppy, nodding at everything they say. Honestly, their advice is worth more than half the stuff on the shelf. Did you ever go back and apologize to the guy you ignored?
