Found a 1987 escalator key in the old Meadowbrook Mall, still works

Last month I snuck into the closed Meadowbrook Mall outside Cleveland and found an original escalator service key in a dusty maintenance closet. I tried it on the stalled escalator motor panel and the lock clicked open after 30 seconds of wiggling. Has anyone else ever found working equipment in these dead malls, or just old trash and mannequins?

Finding a working key after 30 years feels less like a win and more like a reminder of what we lost. These places aren't treasure troves, they're time capsules full of stuff nobody cared enough to take home. You got lucky, but most of that mall is probably just rot and regret, not relics worth saving.
