Found a map from 1987 in the old Oakwood Mall food court that showed something wild
I was poking around the collapsed ceiling near the old Orange Julius stand last week and pulled out a soggy mall directory map dated 1987. Turns out the entire lower level was supposed to be a water park with an indoor pool and slides that never got built because the funding fell through. Has anyone else ever found old plans or maps in these places that show stuff that was never finished?

Wow, that is SO wild! I can't believe they almost built a water park underneath a mall, what a missed opportunity.

The Orange Julius in Oakwood is still there though right? I used to go there as a kid but I don't remember any water park stuff. What did the map actually say was the name of the water park or the company that was supposed to build it? I'm wondering if the funding fell through because of something specific like asbestos issues or the whole 80s mall bubble popping. I've seen other malls that had wild plans like ice rinks or miniature golf that just disappeared from later directories. Do you think the concrete shell for the pool area is still under the flooring or did they fill it in?
