Pro tip: check the ceiling tiles at the food court before you waste an hour on the floor map
I spent almost 2 hours at the dead Sears in the old Crestwood Mall in St. Louis last weekend trying to figure out where the upper level connected, until I finally looked up and saw a water stained tile trail that showed me the old walkway in about 30 seconds, so has anyone else mapped a mall by its ceiling damage instead of the directory?
had a buddy do almost the same thing at the old Jamestown Mall, place was half falling apart and he couldn't make sense of where the second floor used to be. he noticed the tiles above the old escalator spot were a different color, like newer or cleaner, and that whole line of tiles just ran straight to what used to be the food court. he said it took him ten minutes to trace the whole old layout from above instead of staring at some faded map on the wall. malls rot from the top down, so the ceiling tells you the truth before the floors ever do
