Rant: I just counted and I've been inside 27 different dead malls across the Midwest.
That number hit me when I was looking at my old photos from the Sunrise Galleria in Ohio, and it made me realize how many of these places are just sitting there rotting, so has anyone else kept a tally and been shocked by their own count?

Honestly my friend got super into this a few years back. He dragged me to one outside Dayton and we found an old photo booth with pictures still in it from like 1998. Tbh it wasn't creepy, just super sad, like everyone forgot to clean up after the party ended. He said that's when the count stopped being fun for him and just felt like collecting ghosts.

Wait, is this a hobby or a cry for help? That's a lot of dead malls to wander through.

Patricia's not wrong, it does sound a bit wild when you say it out loud. But once you start noticing the patterns, you can't stop. You see the same dead stores, the same cracked floor tiles, the same empty food court chairs in every state. It's less about the count and more about seeing the same story repeat itself in Toledo, then in Indianapolis, then over in St. Louis. They all fade the same way.
