Serious question, did a security guard ever just let you keep exploring?

At the old Sunrise Mall in Corpus Christi, a guard saw my camera and just said, 'The fountain in the food court still works sometimes, kid.' That quiet permission meant more than any photo I took that day. Anyone else have a guard or local give you a tip like that?

Honestly, that sounds like a security guard not doing their job. Their whole point is to keep people safe and follow the rules. If they let everyone with a camera wander around closed areas, it becomes a liability issue. What if you tripped and got hurt? That guard was being nice, but they were also opening up the property owner to a huge risk. That kind of leniency is why places have to lock everything down tight now.

Wait, did you just call a mall fountain a "closed area"? It's a food court, not a secret vault. I mean, the guy was just pointing out a water feature. Are we really calling that a huge liability now? It's not like he unlocked a maintenance tunnel and told them to go explore the roof. Idk, maybe it's just me, but that feels like such a stretch.

My cousin works mall security over in Springfield... he told me they had to rope off a fountain last year after a kid slipped on the wet tile and broke his arm. The family sued, and the mall had to pay out. It's not about being a secret vault, it's about that exact kind of accident. A guard pointing it out like it's okay to be there is basically an invitation, and that changes the liability completely. Letting one person in means you have to let everyone in, and then you're just asking for trouble.
