That recorded announcement in the dead mall food court stopped me cold
Last Sunday I was poking around the old Maple Grove Mall outside Dayton and the backup generator was still running the PA system on a loop. Every 20 minutes a cheery voice would say, “Welcome to Maple Grove Mall, please enjoy your visit,” and nobody was within 300 feet of us. It hit me that someone recorded that greeting in 1996 and never got to take it down, like they were still expecting a crowd that was never coming back. Has anyone else found a working speaker or sign that felt like it was waiting for shoppers who gave up years ago?

Time machines only work one way in dead malls, huh?

Kind of haunting, right? That voice is just stuck in time. Super eerie but also weirdly cool to think about.
