That time a commenter made me stop polishing mall floors
After posting photos from a dead mall in Toledo, someone said my floor reflections looked too clean, like I buffed them myself. They were right, I was going overboard with a headlamp and cloth to make shots pop. Now I leave dust, grime, and scuffs exactly as is, and the decay reads way more honest. Anyone else get called out for making a ruin look too pretty?

Oh man, I gotta disagree with you here. I mean, the whole point of taking photos is to capture what your eye sees, and if you're patient enough to get that clean shot, that's a skill, not a lie. Honestly, idk, I think the dust and grime is just one way to tell the story, but so is the shine. Both are real, just different moments in the same place. I get wanting to be honest, but you weren't faking anything, you were just picking a different angle of the truth. Maybe it's just me, but I'd rather see the mall at its best, even if I held a cloth to make that happen.
