Appreciation post: Letting AI handle my basic design tasks changed my week
I used to spend hours making simple graphics and layouts, but now I use an AI tool for the first drafts. Some say it kills creativity, but for me, it freed up time to focus on the big ideas. What do you think, is AI a crutch or a creative booster?

I mean, let's be real, my design sense is practically non-existent. Using AI for the grunt work lets me actually have ideas instead of just struggling with layouts. So yeah, it's a booster, at least for those of us who can't draw a straight line.

But doesn't that just let you skip the hard part of learning design? AI gives you templates, but you miss out on understanding why layouts work. It might boost speed now, but it doesn't build your skills for later.

Look at it this way. Using AI for first drafts just trains you to rely on a machine instead of your own brain. You skip the messy part where real creative work happens, like figuring out why a layout works. Over time, your design skills get weak because you are not using them. It is like using a calculator for simple math, you forget how to add. That freed up time might just mean you are avoiding the learning that leads to better ideas. So it is a crutch that lets you walk fast now, but you will trip later without it.
