Dropped $200 on an AI transcription tool for my dad's old cassette tapes and it actually worked
My dad has like 30 cassettes from the 80s of him talking about his woodworking projects and I could never hear them right. I paid $200 for a year of this AI transcription service back in March and it turned all that garbled audio into readable text in about a week. I was sure I'd wasted my money but now I have 80 pages of his notes typed out and searchable. The weird part is it kept writing 'table saw' as 'table salt' every single time, which gave me a good laugh. Has anyone else used AI transcription for old family recordings, and did you have to fix a bunch of weird word swaps like that?
My grandpa's reel to reel tapes from Vietnam were sitting in a closet for 40 years because the only player we had ate the tape. Tried one of those cheap $30 apps first and it was useless, just noise. Finally paid for a real service and got 60 pages back, though it turned "chopper" into "shopper" about 200 times which was a little dark. I figured AI would never handle old analog stuff but clearly I was wrong.
