My $200 speaker upgrade that made my AI voice assistant useless

I bought a fancy new smart speaker last month thinking it would make my AI setup better. Big mistake. Turns out the voice recognition got way worse when I moved it across the room, and now my assistant only hears half of what I say. I spent 3 hours tweaking the mic settings and even moved furniture around, still garbage. My old $40 speaker on the desk worked fine, I just wanted something louder. Anyone else regret swapping out a working setup for a flashier one just because it had better specs on paper?

My buddy Mike did the exact same thing last year with his living room setup. He bought this $300 soundbar with all these fancy mics built in, thinking it would pick up his voice from across the couch. Instead, it kept hearing the TV and would answer questions about whatever show was on instead of him. He spent a whole Saturday rearranging his coffee table and the bookshelf just to get the thing to hear him say "turn on the lights." Meanwhile his old little speaker on the end table never missed a command, even when he was in the kitchen. He ended up putting the new soundbar in the bedroom where it only needs to listen to one person, and now he's back to using the cheap one for everything else.
