My aunt's comment about AI translation made me rethink how I use it
She said 'the bot gets the words right but misses the mood' when I showed her a translated recipe. Has anyone else found that AI tools can nail accuracy but totally flub the tone in everyday stuff?

That line "gets the words right but misses the mood" is exactly how I feel about AI translations. I read a piece once about how machine translation handles formal documents fine but falls apart with humor or sarcasm, which makes sense. My sister tried to translate a funny birthday card from Spanish to English using one of those tools, and it came out sounding like a robot wrote it. It's like they understand the dictionary definition of every word but not the feeling behind it. I guess tone is something you can't really teach a computer, at least not right now.

Actually, I think you can teach a computer tone and mood to some degree. It's more about the training data not having enough examples of informal or playful language to learn from yet.

@grace_knight70 I dunno, I feel like it's getting better with tone over time, yours just had bad luck with that card.
