Question about AI art generators and copyright confusion
I keep seeing folks post AI images online claiming they 'own' them, but the legal stuff is way more gray. Has anyone actually read the terms for tools like Midjourney lately?

It's not even gray, it's pretty clear you can't copyright AI generated stuff. The terms usually say the company owns the output anyway.

Wait, I read a lawyer's blog post that totally backs this up.

Actually, the copyright office has been pretty clear that human authorship is required. The company might own the output under their terms, but that doesn't mean it's copyrighted in the legal sense. It's more like they control it through a contract, not copyright law. So you can't stop someone else from using the same AI to make the same thing. The whole area is still a mess, honestly.
