Spent 4 hours debugging an AI image generator that kept making 6-fingered hands
Turned out the training data had a bunch of stock photos where people were holding pens or tools... so it learned to add extra fingers as a "feature." Anyone else hit a weird data bias that took forever to figure out?

Oh come on, is that really a bug though? It sounds like the model figured out that extra fingers help grip things better, which is kind of a smart shortcut. I've seen this exact thing happen with car generators where they add extra headlights because the training data had night shots with reflections. You gotta admit the logic is actually pretty sound even if the result looks weird.

Not sure if that's really how it works, I mean extra fingers probably don't help with grip in the training data, it's more about the hand shapes being blurry or the model just glitching from occlusion. Might just be me but it seems like a stretch to say it's a smart shortcut.
