Spent a whole weekend trying to get an AI model to stop writing like a robot

I was fine-tuning a small language model for a personal project last month, just to generate simple blog posts. The base output was stiff and full of weird, formal phrases. I figured adjusting the training data would fix it in an afternoon. I spent Friday night through Sunday evening tweaking prompts, adjusting temperature settings, and feeding it different writing samples, over and over. It finally started sounding natural after maybe 30 tries. Has anyone else burned a weekend on something that seemed like a quick fix?

Oh man, tell me about it. I once lost a whole Saturday trying to get a chatbot to stop saying "I am pleased to inform you" for every single answer, lol. It's never just a quick tweak.

Seriously, the worst part is when they start looping on a phrase that sounds polite but ends up creepy. @the_patricia, "I am pleased to inform you" feels like a robot trying way too hard to be nice. It's like they get stuck in a weird customer service mode and can't break out.

Used to think it was simple until my own bot got stuck on "as a language model" for a full day.
