Thought AI transcription was a gimmick until it caught a doc saying something I totally missed
I've been using the free version of Otter.ai for my mom's doctor visits since she's got a lot going on, mostly just to keep notes straight. Last Tuesday at her appointment in Sacramento the doc mentioned adjusting one of her meds down to 5mg, and I thought I heard him say 15. Played the recording back twice and sure enough, he said 5. That one catch alone was worth the $8.99 a month I pay now, no question. Curious if anyone's using a different tool for this kind of stuff or if Otter is still the go to.
That line about catching 5mg vs 15mg is the whole ballgame right there. My dad had a similar thing happen with his blood pressure pills and the difference between what I wrote down and what the doc actually said could have landed him in the ER. Here's what I learned the hard way though, don't just trust the recording, ask the doctor to repeat the dose back to you at the end of the visit and write it down on paper right there in the room. I keep a little notebook just for med changes with the date and who said it, because if something goes sideways you want that paper trail. Otter is fine for playback but it can mangle drug names pretty bad, so for anything that sounds like a real medication I always double check it against the bottle or the pharmacy printout. The free version caps your minutes so if her appointments run long you'll hit that wall fast, just a heads up before you get blindsided mid visit.
