TIL my coworker's AI chatbot prototype is way smarter than mine

I was talking to Dave from the marketing team yesterday, and he showed me this chatbot he built with a $200 API budget. His thing could actually remember context from 3 conversations ago, while mine forgets what I said 2 messages back. He told me he spent 4 weekends fine-tuning it on customer support logs from last year. It hit different because I thought I was ahead with my simple setup. Now I'm wondering if I should scrap my whole approach and start over with his method. Has anyone else had a humbling moment comparing your AI project to someone else's?

Used to think fine-tuning was overhyped. Dave's results prove there's real value in putting in the work on specific data sets. Definitely reconsidering my whole approach now.

My buddy Karen's bot kept calling people "dude" from bad training data.

@lisa5 you might want to check that training data again. "Dude" slips in way easier than people think if the dataset has a lot of casual chats. Been there myself, caught my test bot calling everyone "bro" once.
