Vent: my image upscaler turned a customer's cat into a 3-eyed blob

I ran a batch of 40 old family photos through an AI upscaler for a client in Tampa two days ago and it smoothed every face into wax. It also turned their cat into a 3-eyed blob and cloned a lamp into the wall. Is there a cleaner tool that handles old grainy photos without inventing extra eyeballs?
