I used to think the whole 'sub vs dub' fight was pointless

I was reading a thread here last night where someone said they only watch dubs because they like to see the actors' mouths match the words. I mean, I always thought it was just about which one you grew up with, but that point made me stop. I guess I never really thought about how the lip sync can pull you out of the story if it's off. So now I get why some people feel so strongly about it, even if I still watch both. Has anyone else had a moment that changed their mind on a big anime debate like that?

I used to be really strict about only watching subs for years. Then I tried the dub for Cowboy Bebop because a friend insisted, and the voice acting was just perfect. It made me realize some dubs actually add to the experience instead of taking away from it. Now I check reviews for the voice cast before I decide which way to go for each show. That one show completely broke my old rule.

Totally agree with @lisa5! Cowboy Bebop's dub is a classic example. Some shows just have amazing English casts that fit the vibe perfectly. I got the same feeling watching the dub for Black Lagoon, the voices added so much attitude. It really does depend on the show and who's doing the work.
