Just realized I've been reading subtitles wrong for like... a decade. A friend pointed out I was missing half the screen.

Wait, does this happen with everything now? I swear we all get so focused on one part of something we miss the whole picture. Like reading the subtitles and not seeing the actor's face, or staring at your phone walking somewhere and not seeing the street. Our brains just lock onto the text or the notification and tune everything else out. It's kinda scary how much we might be missing without even knowing.

You know, I read this thing about how our brains can only really focus on one spot at a time? It's like that thing hayden709 said about the phone. We're not built to read words and watch a picture at the same second. My fix is to watch stuff in English without subtitles now, even if I miss a word, because I finally noticed how much acting I was missing in the eyes and hands. It makes the whole show feel different, like I'm actually there in the room with them instead of just reading a script.

Wow, that's a wild thing to realize... I always thought subtitles helped me catch more, not less. But you're right, I was rewatching an old show and caught this tiny smirk the main character makes during a line... I had totally missed it before because my eyes were glued to the bottom of the screen. It completely changed the feeling of the scene. Makes me wonder what other little details I've been skipping over in movies and even in real life.
