My brother said 'One Piece' is just a kids' show and I had to explain the whole thing
We were at a family dinner last night and my brother, who only watches sports, saw my Wano arc shirt and made a comment. He said, 'You're still into that cartoon about the rubber guy? Isn't that for kids?' I tried to keep it calm, but I ended up talking for like twenty minutes straight about the themes of inherited will, the deep world-building, and how the story handles serious stuff like slavery and corruption. I told him about the 'Nothing Happened' moment from Thriller Bark and how it hit me. It wasn't just me defending a show, it was realizing how easy it is for people to write off an entire medium because of how it looks. Has anyone else had to give the 'it's not just cartoons' talk to a family member recently?

My cousin said the same thing last Thanksgiving. I just told him to watch the Arlong Park arc and get back to me.

That scene where Nami finally asks Luffy for help after stabbing her own arm gets me every time. @wendys16 is right to tell people to watch the whole arc, because the payoff needs all that build up of seeing Nami suffer alone. You see her break down and then Luffy just puts his hat on her head, which is such a simple but huge moment. It's not just sad, it's about finding a crew that becomes your real family.
