My cousin swore I'd ruin my vacuum by using it on hardwood - turns out she was right lol

I moved into this old apartment in Portland like 6 months ago and it's all hardwood floors. My cousin Kim (we have the same name lol) told me not to use my upright vacuum with the beater bar on. I was like nah it's fine I'll just be careful. Fast forward to 3 weeks ago I noticed this weird scratching sound coming from the vacuum. Looked underneath and the brush roll was all chewed up and there were actual scratch marks on the floor in the corner of my living room. Had to order a new brush roll for $15 and now I just use the hardwood setting on my trusty old Bissell. She's never gonna let me live this down. Anyone else have a relative who was annoyingly right about something?

Told my mom I could totally wax my own hardwood floors after watching a YouTube video. Ended up with a finish that looked like a toddler did it and had to pay a guy $200 to fix it. She still brings it up at Thanksgiving.

Ever notice how pride always seems to cost us money in the end? I bet every single one of us has that one relative who's just waiting to be proven right about something like this. It's like the universe has a sense of humor about teaching us lessons the hard way.

My uncle still brings up the time I swore I could fix my own car's alternator to save $300. I mean, I could not. Ended up stranded at a gas station and the tow truck alone cost me more than the repair would have. But idk, maybe it's just me but I feel like people make this pride thing way bigger than it needs to be. Sometimes you mess up and it's not some cosmic lesson about ego, it's just a bad decision on a Tuesday. Not everything has to be a deep character flaw.
