Rant: My buddy told me FLCL was just random nonsense and I believed him for years
He said it had no plot and was just weird animation stunts, so I skipped it for like 6 years. Finally watched it last month and realized it's a tight coming-of-age story about adolescence and growing up. Has anyone else had a friend steer you wrong about a classic show?

The Thing is a PERFECT example of this. I slept on it for YEARS because my cousin told me it was just "gross out gore with no story." Then I watched it last winter and felt like an absolute fool. Honestly it makes me wonder what other movies I've been too sheepish to try. Like maybe I'm missing out on a whole bunch of classics just because I listened to some random dude's bad take.

Yeah man, I finally watched The Thing last year after years of hearing it was overrated. Best decision ever.
