That old fansub debate came back to me today
Someone in a Discord server said they'd never watch a show with subs older than 2015 and I just sat there remembering 2006, waiting 2 weeks for a 45 MB RealVideo file from a dial-up share. Anyone else ever explain to younger fans what it was like when a translation note was longer than the episode itself?

Man, do you remember having to decode the typesetter's handwriting in the margins? I had one show where the note explained a whole Japanese holiday and it took up like half the screen, I swear. And you'd wait forever for that tiny RealVideo file, then it'd buffer every five seconds anyway. Kids today have no idea what dedication actually looked like.
