Appreciation post: My $20 multimeter from Harbor Freight is still going strong after 8 years

I see a lot of guys using the continuity beeper to check for voltage, and it's a fast way to blow a fuse or worse. Anyone have a better method for quick safety checks before you dive in?

My old Fluke 87V has a low impedance mode for ghost voltage.

My Fluke 101 has a dedicated non-contact voltage tester built in. It's the only way I trust for a quick first look before touching anything. That beeper trick is asking for trouble.

Yeah, @luna891, that beeper trick is pure superstition. It's not a real test and gives a false sense of safety. Just use the right tool for the job.
