Customer in Tampa asked if I could "just make it quiet" and I still think about it
Had a call last month on a 12 year old Whirlpool washer in Tampa, and the lady meets me at the door looking like she's about to cry. She points at the machine and says, "It works fine, it just sounds angry, can you make it stop sounding angry?" I pull the front panel and find a quarter, two bobby pins, and a guitar pick wedged in the pump housing. Took me 20 minutes and a $75 service call and she hugged me at the door like I cured something. The thing that gets me is how many folks wait until a noise turns into a leak or a burnt smell before they call anybody. Now I tell every customer to drop a load of towels in once a month on hot and just listen to it. What's the weirdest thing you've pulled out of a pump that a customer swore wasn't theirs?
Oh man, I read a repair forum thread once where a guy pulled a whole set of car keys out of a drain pump. The customer swore up and down they weren't hers until he jingled them and she recognized her spare set.
