Debate: should we fix it or talk the customer into a new unit?

I had a guy in Austin last month with a 12 year old fridge that just needed a $40 start relay. He wanted it fixed, but his wife was dead set on buying a new one because the ice maker was acting up too. Do you push for the repair to save them money or let them upgrade and take the bigger job?

Wife probably just wanted a new fridge all along.

Blame it on the ice maker man, those things are like the check engine light of refrigerators. Honestly, I've been that husband before where my wife gives me that look and I know we're going shopping whether the thing needs a $40 part or not. Ngl, I'd probably take the bigger job every time just to keep the peace at home, my wallet can recover but my couch sleeping days are over. Tbh, the real fix is letting her pick out the new stainless steel model while I quietly fix the old one to sell on Craigslist and pocket the cash. Works every time, I swear.
