Finally fixed a 12 year old fridge leak in Fort Worth

Last month I drove two hours to a rental property that had been dripping water for weeks. Previous techs had replaced the drain pan twice and it still pooled under the unit. I pulled the evaporator cover and found the defrost drain line was clogged with a chunk of ice and debris near the back. Cleared it with hot water and a flexible wire brush, then insulated that section so it wouldn't freeze again. Customer called me yesterday to say the floor has been dry for 21 days now. Has anyone else dealt with recurring ice blockages in that exact spot on older models?

Wait, did you say the drain line was clogged with ice and debris near the back? Because usually if the drain line freezes up, it's the heater element that's failing, not just a one-time blockage. The wire brush trick works for clearing it, but if you didn't check the heater or the thermostat clip on the coil itself, that ice chunk is probably gonna come back in a few weeks. I've seen this on older Frigidaires where the heater gets weak and just barely melts the ice, but not enough to keep the drain clear. You might wanna tell the customer to keep an eye on it after 60 days, cause that's usually when it shows up again if the element is on its way out.
