Finally fixed a GE washer that I'd written off as a lost cause

Had a GE top loader that kept throwing an F28 error code. Spent 3 hours chasing a main board issue because that's what every forum said. Turned out to be a tiny crack in the wire harness near the drain pump. Third time I've seen that now on these models. Anyone else run into phantom codes that lead you down the wrong path?

The worst was an LG that kept throwing a code for bad bearings. Replaced the whole drum assembly before finding out it was just a loose belt. Wasted a whole weekend on that one.

@terry_thomas nailed it, I've been burned by the same cracked wire nonsense on two different GE machines now. Guess chasing a main board is just part of the initiation ritual for these things.

Always thought it was the board too until I found the same cracked wire on my third repair.
