Is it worth quoting a full replacement or just the part that's busted?

Found a stat from a 2023 HVAC trade journal that said 68% of customers will approve a repair if it's under 50% of a new unit cost. But I had a guy in my shop last week argue that replacing a whole washing machine motor for $400 was a ripoff when a new machine is $600. So where's the line? Do you guys give both options or just push the repair?

Can't believe that guy thought $400 on a motor was bad when $600 gets you a whole new machine with a warranty.

Is it just me or does that kind of short-term thinking happen with almost everything now, like people would rather patch something up forever than just bite the bullet and replace it?

Agree completely @piper912, patched my washer three times last year before finally admitting I should've just bought a new one.
