PSA: I spent 15 years using the wrong drill bits for stainless and never knew it

I had a job last month fixing a commercial dishwasher at a diner in Akron. The access panel screws were all stripped and I kept snapping bits left and right. I figured it was just cheap hardware until a plumber on site asked if I was using cobalt bits for the stainless. I told him I just used whatever was in my bag. He handed me a cobalt bit and it went through like butter. All those years I was burning up high speed steel bits and blaming the metal. Has anyone else wasted time on the wrong bit type for a common material?

My grandfather used a flathead screwdriver as a pry bar for 40 years.

Read somewhere those things aren't meant for prying.

Oh man, I've definitely spent a decade blaming my tools instead of my own ignorance.
