Showerthought: I thought those cheap thermal fuses from online were junk, but one just saved a dryer in my own house.

Had a Kenmore gas dryer go down last week, and the only fuse I had on hand was a generic $3 part from a bulk order I was sure would fail fast. It's been running perfect for 8 days now, which has me rethinking my whole parts sourcing. Anyone else have a brand they swore off that actually held up?

Wait, aren't thermal fuses supposed to be one-time use?

They can be reset if they're the type with a manual button. My old space heater has one that trips and just needs a press to work again. The one-time fuses are usually in things like hair dryers, right?

Actually thought the same as Drew for years until my dryer died. The repair guy showed me the tiny thermal fuse that had blown, said it was a one time safety part. Made sense when he explained they're there to stop fires if things overheat, so they shouldn't just reset. What do you look for to tell if something has a reset button instead?
