That week in July when every dryer repair turned into a nightmare
Last summer I had a stretch of 7 days where I fixed 4 dryers and each one had a different weird problem. First one had a melted belt because the homeowner stuffed a rug in there. Next one was a bad idler pulley that was squealing like crazy. Then I found a control board that got fried from a power surge. The last one was a simple lint buildup but the vent was clogged with bird nesting material. By Friday I was just glad to be done with dryers for a while. Has anyone else had a run of bad luck with one specific appliance type?

Did you see that Consumer Reports article about how dryers are getting more complicated than they need to be? I read that newer models have way more electronic parts that fail. Sounds like you hit the jackpot with all those issues in one week though. That bird nest in the vent is a classic. Landlords never check those things until something breaks. Bet you earned your pay that week.

That bird nest probably saved more energy than any new control board ever will.

Yeah that Consumer Reports article hit the nail on the head. I had a similar nightmare with a rental property last year. The old dryer ran fine for years but tenants wanted an upgrade so we put in one of those fancy new ones with all the sensors and touch buttons. Within six months the control board fried. Cost almost as much to fix as the whole machine. Should've just kept the old one. Sometimes simple mechanical stuff beats all that new tech.
