TIL a trick for those old Frigidaire ice makers that just hum

Had a rough Tuesday with three of those calls in a row, all the same issue. I finally remembered my old boss in Dayton saying to check the little plastic gear on the motor shaft for stripped teeth, and sure enough, that was it on all three. Anyone got a good source for those gears besides the whole motor assembly?

Always thought it was the motor itself.

Yeah, @thomas.tyler, that hum really does sound like a bad motor at first. I bet a lot of those "bad motors" just need that one cheap gear swapped out.

Ever wonder how many things get tossed out for a single worn part? I had a power drill that locked up, and I was sure it was toast. Took it apart on a whim and found one plastic drive gear with two broken teeth. Five dollar part from a hobby site and it's been fine for years now. Makes you second guess throwing anything away before you crack it open.
