Took 4 trips to a Frigidaire in Boise before I found the bad wire behind the crisper
Last month I had a customer with a fridge that kept frosting up on the bottom shelf, and I replaced the defrost heater, the thermostat, and the control board with no luck. Turned out a mouse had chewed through the drain tube wire harness behind the crisper drawer, and it only acted up when the door was shut. How do you all track down intermittent shorts without pulling the whole unit apart?
That drain tube wire harness behind the crisper is such a sneaky spot, since the wire only grounds out when the door presses the light switch and shifts the frame just enough. What most guys miss is checking voltage drop under a load instead of just ohming the wires cold, because a chewed wire can test fine until it warms up or moves. Hook a meter to the circuit with the door shut and wiggle the harness, and you will usually see the short show up right where the mouse made his nest.
