Wasted $150 on a 'universal' control board that didn't fit anything

Bought a supposed universal refrigerator control board from an online surplus place last month, thinking it would save me time on calls. Ended up spending 3 hours trying to make it work on a Whirlpool before giving up and ordering the OEM part anyway. Anyone else get burned by these generic boards?

my buddy tom bought one of those generic boards for his kenmore fridge. spent a whole saturday trying to wire it up and it just kept throwing error codes. finally gave up and his wife made him call a pro anyway.

Did you keep the receipt? I think I'm still trying to digest that kind of lost money... I once bought a "multi-voltage" power supply that was supposed to work with everything and it just hummed and smoked for a bit before giving up the ghost. Ran around with a fire extinguisher for a solid 10 minutes after that one. Still cheaper than a service call I guess, but barely.
