Wasted $180 on a fancy diagnostic tool when my $9 multimeter was all I needed
Bought one of those Bluetooth amp clamp meters last spring thinking it would speed up dryer calls. Turns out on 90% of the no-heat jobs I run, the cheap multimeter tells me the same thing in 30 seconds: bad element or blown thermal fuse. The fancy one sits in my bag now because half the time the app won't pair or the reading jumps around near the motor windings. I finally admitted it after a $180 lesson and a Kenmore in Garland that I could have fixed with two probes and a continuity beep. Anyone else got a tool they regret buying, or am I the only one who falls for the gadget hype?
