Why does nobody talk about the hidden drain filter on those LG front loaders?
Last month I was on a call for a washer that wouldn't drain, and the homeowner in Tempe swore they'd cleaned the main filter. After pulling the front panel, I found a secondary filter behind the drain pump housing that was completely clogged with a sock. It took an extra 20 minutes to get to, but it fixed the issue. Do you guys have a trick for accessing that spot without removing the whole bottom panel?

Remember that stupid filter every time I have to get to it. My trick is a stubby flathead screwdriver and a lot of bad words. You can sometimes pop the little cover off from the front if you wedge it just right, but half the time I end up taking the whole panel off anyway because my hands are too big. Feels like they hid it just to mess with us.

Reminds me of trying to replace the cabin air filter in my old car. You had to be a contortionist to get your arm up behind the glove box. Ended up with a spring from the dash mechanism stuck in my sleeve once. The whole thing felt like a punishment for wanting clean air.

The glove box filter thing is a nightmare, but "contortionist" is a bit of an overstatement (unless you drive a Smart car or something). More like you have to become a human pretzel for a couple minutes. That spring getting stuck in your sleeve though, classic. The real punishment is when the new filter is slightly too thick and you have to shove it in there while trying not to tear it. And yeah, dylan604's trick only works on certain models, most of them you're just stuck taking the whole side panel off anyway.
