Appreciation post: The old guy at my shop who checked my torque wrench with a fish scale
About 6 months ago I was doing brakes on a Civic at my shop here in Boise and this retiree who hangs around named Walt watched me grab the shop torque wrench off the bench. He didn't say a word, just walked over, hooked a fish scale on the handle at the 12 inch mark, and pulled till it clicked at what should have been 30 ft lbs. It clicked way early, the scale only read 22 pounds. He grinned and said "that thing's been lying to you for a while, kid." We dug out the calibration sheet and sure enough it got dropped last fall and nobody sent it in. I rechecked the last few brake jobs I did with it and felt sick. Does anyone here actually log their torque wrench drops, or do you just send them out once a year and hope?
