DAE get a little proud when you catch a problem during a routine oil change that could've been major?

That preventive attention idea, can it be taught or is it just instinct?

Totally get what Mark means about that oil change feeling. I was cleaning gutters last fall and noticed one downspout was barely hanging on. Felt like nothing, but I fixed it and that winter we avoided a huge ice dam that would have wrecked the roof. It's that same little detail thing, right? You just get a hunch something's off and acting on it saves so much trouble later.

Yeah, that feeling when you "catch a problem during a routine oil change" is totally real. It's not just about cars, either. I read a piece once that called that skill "preventive attention," where noticing one small, weird detail stops a huge headache later. It's that split second where you see something that just isn't right. That little hit of pride comes from knowing you paid close enough attention to make a difference. It turns a simple task into something that actually matters.
