Heads up on the new 'Quick-Fix' reman calipers at the AutoZone on 5th Street

I was picking up a part there yesterday and saw they had a whole rack of these reman calipers with a bright yellow 'Quick-Fix' label. I opened one box out of curiosity and the slide pin boots felt thin and cheap, like they'd tear in a year. The piston seal also looked like a generic fit, not the right profile for the original. Has anyone else installed one of these and had a problem come back fast?

Used to grab the cheapest reman I could find. Had one of those exact calipers lock up after six months, never again.

Heard a mechanic on a podcast say the cheap remans often skip cleaning the bore properly, so all that old gunk and corrosion just gets new seals slapped over it. Makes total sense why they'd lock up so fast. It's not even about the piston or seal failing, it's the housing itself they never really fix. That story about your caliper locking up after six months is exactly what he described. Makes you realize that extra fifty bucks for a decent unit is just buying the peace of mind.

Yeah, I learned that lesson the hard way too. Now I just save up and buy the better ones, saves so much hassle later.
