My uncle's torque wrench advice from 1987 still holds up today
He told me to always click the wrench twice before trusting the reading, thought it was old man nonsense until a head bolt backed out on a 5.3 in Austin last spring. Now I do it every time and haven't had a comeback job since, anyone else stick to weird habits like that from older guys in the trade?

Learned the same thing from an old diesel guy in Tennessee. He made me torque every rod bolt three times, then back them off and start over. Thought it was a waste of time until I saw a spun bearing on a 7.3 that came from a single-pass job. Now I always do a second pass on anything critical, even if the book says one and done. Cheap insurance for something that takes thirty seconds.
