That time a coolant flush in Boise taught me to trust the customer less

I was working at a quick lube spot in Boise about two years ago, and a guy came in asking for a simple coolant flush on his Ford F-150. He swore up and down he'd just had the system serviced. I hooked up the machine, started the cycle, and within three minutes the radiator cracked right along the top seam. Turns out he'd been running straight water with a stop-leak pellet for over a year. The cost for the new radiator and proper flush was nearly $500. Now I always do a quick visual and a test strip first, no matter what the customer says. Anyone else get burned by taking a story at face value?

Classic. Trust but verify, right?

Sounds like a lot of work for a meme.
