TIL my old way of finding TDC was a total joke

Honestly, for years I'd just stick a screwdriver in the spark plug hole and turn the crank by hand, listening for the 'puff' and feeling for the push. Ngl, it worked maybe 60% of the time. What changed was last month when I was doing a timing belt on a Honda Civic and my buddy Mike walked in, saw me doing it, and just said, 'Dude, a $20 piston stop tool, seriously.' I bought one that afternoon. Has anyone else had a 'why did I ever do it the hard way' moment with a basic task?

Oh man, the piston stop is a total game changer. It gives you a solid, repeatable mark instead of just guessing at the top of the stroke. I felt like an idiot for not getting one sooner.

Right? @reese_lopez49 gets it, same with my old zip tie trick.

Ugh, I used to use a chopstick. A literal chopstick. I'm not a smart man.
