Update: I was convinced those magnetic oil drain plugs were just snake oil
A customer at my shop in Tacoma insisted on installing one on his F-150, claiming it would catch metal shavings. After 5,000 miles, we pulled it and the magnet was covered in fine ferrous particles I wouldn't have seen otherwise. Has anyone else seen a real benefit from these, or did we just get lucky with that specific engine?

Oh wow, that's actually pretty normal! Those magnets always catch some fine stuff, it's the big chunks you gotta worry about.
