Why did my brand new impact gun start smoking after 4 loosened lug nuts?

Got a new DeWalt 20V impact from a client's shop last week, tried it on a Chevy Silverado and it started smoking after just four lug nuts on one wheel, so I cracked it open and found the rotor was completely seized against the housing from a bad bearing out of the box. Has anyone else had a tool die that fast or did I just get a lemon?

Guess DeWalt's new "smoke screen" feature is supposed to hide the seized rotor.

12 bucks says the "smoke screen" only activates after the warranty expires. Sounds like DeWalt is branching out into magic tricks now.

That 'smoke screen only activates after warranty expires' line hits different when you're literally watching your brand new tool smoke itself to death on the second lug nut. DeWalt must be testing a new quick-release feature where the bearing releases itself from the rotor instantly. At least you know the warranty replacement will come with a complimentary smoke detector.
