Almost froze my toes off on the Highline Trail in Glacier last September
I took the Highline Trail near Logan Pass thinking I'd be fine with just a light jacket and some snacks. Around mile 5 a snow squall rolled in out of nowhere and dropped the temp by 20 degrees in ten minutes. My hands went numb trying to dig a dry bag out of my pack. Has anyone else gotten caught in a sudden weather shift on a popular route and had to turn back?

September temps drop fast above 6000 feet.

Gotcha covered, actually it's more like 5000 feet where things start getting real chilly come September. I've been up around 5500 in early fall and had frost on my tent by morning, but down in the valley it was still 80 degrees. The 6000 foot mark is a good rule of thumb but the temp drop can hit lower if you're in a shaded canyon or near a big body of water that cools the air. So yeah, close enough but not quite the hard cutoff.
